Alloys 309 and 309S are austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steels that are often used for higher temperature applications. Owing to their high chromium and nickel content, Alloys 309 and 309S are highly corrosion resistant, have exceptional resistance to oxidation, and great heat resistance while offering good strength at room and elevated temperatures. The only significant difference between 309 and 309S is the carbon content, Alloy 309S has a much less carbon composition which minimizes carbide precipitation and improves weldability.

Stainless steel 310S is austenitic chromium, nickel stainless steel (.08% max carbon) with good oxidation resistance and strength at high temperatures. It resist oxidation in continuous service up to 2000ºF gave decreasing sulphur gasses are not present. It is additionally utilized for intermittent service at temperatures up to 1900°F due to it resists rescaling and has a low coefficient of expansion. This factor reduces the tendency of the steel to warp in heat service. 310s are same as 310 aside from lower carbon content to minimize carbide precipitation during welding.

US 309/309S (UNS S30900/S30908) steel
TYPES 309 AND 309S are austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steels that provide excellent corrosion resistance and heat resistance plus good strength at room and elevated temperatures. Type 309S is identical to Type 309 except for a lower carbon content that minimizes carbide precipitation and improves weldability.

With better strength at higher temperatures, Type 422 (S42200) is an appealing alternative to Type 403. Type 422 is a hardenable martensitic stainless steel which is being widely used for high temperatures up to 1200°F. It is capable of being heat treated to various high strength levels. It is often used in aircraft and power industries who require high strength/weight ratios from room temperature to 1200°F.

Alloy 416 is a martensitic, free-machining, chromium steel alloy that is generally considered to be the first free-machining stainless steel. It has the highest machinability of any stainless steel at about 85% of that of a free-machining carbon steel. Martensitic stainless steels were designed to be hardenable by heat treatment and also corrosion resistant.
